Cat 🐈 The Pink Plateau: A Study in Rooftop Surrealism
There is something inherently peaceful about a rooftop. It’s that middle ground between the safety of home and the vastness of the sky. But in my latest photography project, I wanted to push that peace into the realm of the unexpected.
📸 The Canvas
The foundation of this shot is a wide-angle panorama of a minimalist rooftop. The terracotta-pink floor provides a warm, consistent base that makes the white architecture of the house pop against the lush green tropical backdrop. The clean lines of the Art Deco-inspired facade create a sense of order—but I knew I wanted to disrupt that order just a little bit.
🎨 The "Mad Scientist" Touch
As you might notice from the watermark in the corner, this wasn't meant to be a standard architectural photo. I decided to lean into the absurd:
The Guardians: On the left, we have a stoic Jack Russell Terrier keeping watch. On the right, an orange tabby cat is caught in a moment of pure, unadulterated relaxation. They act as the "bookends" of the frame, grounding the wide space.
The Sky: If you look closely at the upper right, a flock of birds streaks across the sky, adding a sense of motion to an otherwise still, sun-drenched afternoon.
The Perspective: Using a panoramic stitch allowed me to wrap the entire environment around the viewer, making the rooftop feel like its own isolated island floating above the trees.
Photography Tip: Embrace the Edit
Sometimes, a photo is just a starting point. Don't be afraid to treat your digital files like a collage. By adding elements that weren't there—or rearranging the ones that were—you can turn a simple location into a narrative.
In this shot, the house is no longer just a building; it’s a stage for a dog, a cat, and a flock of birds to coexist in a pink-hued dreamscape.
"Photography is not about capturing reality, it's about capturing how you choose to see it."
