Sounce 16GB Mini MP3 Player with Bluetooth 5.4: An Unflattering, Honest Review

Considering grabbing the “Sounce 16GB Mini MP3 Music Player” ? If it’s on sale and you’re looking for a budget media player, then this might tempt you especially because it’s currently Amazon's #1 Bestseller. I spent a solid 12 hours trying it out, and I’m here to give you the brutally honest truth behind all the #1 bestseller glory.

If this is currently priced at 1,648 (or anything close) do NOT buy it. It’s simply not worth your money.

    Brief Rating: 2.5 / 5 Stars

Verdict: The only time I would even recommend this is if it’s massively discounted (below 800), otherwise give it a pass. #1 bestsellers on Amazon often come with caveats especially when dealing with budget electronics like this.

My experience with the Sounce MP3 Player

The single biggest pain of this device is the Bluetooth 5.4 connection. Even with the latest technology, the Bluetooth just couldn’t handle staying connected. It would connect, play music for roughly one minute and then just abruptly disconnect. If you wear neckbands or even some earbuds, get ready to be extremely frustrated.

Another source of agony is the interface and button layout. It’s totally illogical and clunky. I honestly felt like I needed to read the manual before using the device, to learn how to skip a song, or navigate through my music. The user-friendliness is essentially zero sometimes you keep the product without using its automatic switch-off. It's not a big issue if you switch it on and it's working perfectly.

On the flip side, it’s a well-built little device. It’s light, easy to carry and it has a good black finish that looks sleek. The internal speaker is loud but honestly, the sound quality from both the speaker and the bundled headphones is mediocre. ‘Ok-ok’ would be an appropriate term.

After about three hours of charging, it lasts well enough for standard usage. You do get a memory card and some wired headphones in the box, which is nice, but it’s just not enough to justify the price.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros

    - Nice physical feel. The device is lightweight and easy to grip, and it looks good in black.

    - Good build quality for the price (if it were actually a lower price point).

    - Built-in speaker is loud.

    - It comes with accessories, which is a plus for a budget item (16GB card and headphones).

    - Battery life is adequate for simple use after charging.

    Cons

    - The Bluetooth is incredibly unreliable and keeps dropping.

    - The button layout is confusing and difficult to get used to.

    - The sound quality is only mediocre at best.

    - Seriously overpriced for the functionality you get (1,648).

Final Thoughts: Think before you buy. Seriously.

This product is a stark example of how often flimsier tech gets pushed to the top of bestseller lists on online platforms. IF this drops below the 800 mark, maybe buy it to use exclusively as a wired player at the gym or during a walk. But do not spend close to 1,600 dollars for it. Double or triple think this one.
