The Wrecking Crew 2026 is a high-octane trip down memory lane to the 1990s.

Grab some popcorn if you miss the days when action movies were all about big muscles, property damage, and the mismatched partners trope that actually worked. The Wrecking Crew which is now available on Prime Video is the kind of unapologetic brain-off volume-up fun we've been looking for.
The Idea: Brothers Blood and Bad Attitudes
Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto Blue Beetle, the movie stars Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as Jonny and James Hale, two half-brothers who don't get along.
James Bautista: A strict Navy SEAL instructor who follows the rules.
Jonny Momoa is a cop who drinks a lot and doesn't care what happens to him. He has a punch first, ask later policy.
They haven't talked in ten years, but the death of their father in Hawaii brings them back together. Of course, they don't spend a lot of time grieving. Instead, they get caught up in a plot involving the Yakuza, a smug real estate mogul played with delicious arrogance by Claes Bang and enough explosions to make Michael Bay blush.
Why It Works: The Beefy Chemistry
The chemistry is what really sells this, not the plot which let's be honest is pretty easy to guess.
The Dynamic: Watching Momoa and Bautista on screen together is like watching two tectonic plates crash into each other. The movie is smart enough to make fun of how similar their bodies are at one point, they are called clones of The Rock but their personalities are very different.
The Action: Soto gets rid of the CGI soup that is common in superhero movies today and instead uses real stunts. There is an early fight in Jonny's house that involves a cheese grater. It's both creative and painful to watch. What was the best part? A helicopter and a minivan chase on the highway that breaks the laws of physics in the best way possible.
The Straight-to-Streaming Factor
Is it a work of art? No. It definitely feels long at 122 minutes. The villain's long speech is a bit of a throwback, and the movie has a strange amount of collateral damage RIP to the many fruit stands and parked cars in Hawaii. It feels like a spiritual successor to movies like Bad Boys or Tango & Cash, which don't want to change your life, just your Friday night.
The Decision: 3.5 out of 5 Stars
The Wrecking Crew is a movie that makes you feel good. It knows what it is and doesn't try to be Oppenheimer. This is the movie for you if you like watching two charming giants use explosives and one-liners to deal with family problems.
Last thought: It's loud, it's sweaty, and it's probably the most fun Dave Bautista has had on screen since Guardians.
Would you like me to make a list of other action movies coming out in 2026 that you should watch?
