How Taylor Swift Fans Shook the World with Their Love

Taylor Swift is known for her catchy songs, her loyal fanbase, and her record-breaking achievements. But did you know that her fans are also capable of causing earthquakes with their enthusiasm?

That’s right, Swifties (as her fans are called) danced so hard at her Eras Tour concerts in Seattle on July 22 and 23 that they generated seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach.

The “Swift Quake” was detected by a local seismometer that also recorded the famous “Beast Quake” in 2011, when Seattle Seahawks fans erupted after a touchdown by Marshawn Lynch. However, Caplan-Auerbach said that the shaking from the Swift concert was twice as strong as the “Beast Quake” and lasted much longer.

Caplan-Auerbach, who is a geology professor at Western Washington University, analyzed the data from both nights of the concert and found that they were nearly identical, except for a half-hour delay on the second night due to some technical issues. She said that the rhythm of the music, the speakers, and the beat drove the energy into the ground and shook it.

The seismologist also said that she was impressed by the scientific curiosity of Swifties, who contacted her on social media to learn more about the phenomenon. She said that she hopes to use this opportunity to share her passion for science and show that it can be fun and relevant to everyday life.

Swift herself was amazed by the energy and excitement of her fans in Seattle, who sang along to every song from her nine-album discography. She thanked them on Instagram for bringing the house down and called them "the best crowd I have ever played for".

The Eras Tour is Swift’s latest concert series that celebrates her musical evolution from her self-titled debut album in 2006 to her surprise releases Folklore and Evermore in 2020. The tour features different setlists and costumes for each era, as well as special guests and surprises. The tour will continue in the US until August before heading to Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

If you are a Swiftie or a fan of music in general, you don’t want to miss this spectacular show that will make you feel all the emotions and shake the earth with your love. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for some seismic activity!
