    MG Comet EV Review: A Smart and Affordable Electric Car

     


    MG Motor India has recently launched its second electric car in the country, the MG Comet EV. The Comet EV is a compact hatchback that aims to offer a smart and affordable urban mobility solution for Indian customers. The car comes in three variants: Pace, Play and Plush, with prices starting from Rs. 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom).


    Design and Features

    The MG Comet EV has a futuristic and minimalist design that stands out from the crowd. The car features LED light bars at the front and rear, dual-pod LED projector headlamps, LED tail lights, 12-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, horizontally-mounted turn indicators on the fascia, and an illuminated MG logo. The car is available in five colours: White, Silver, Blue, Red and Black.


    The interior of the car is spacious and comfortable, with fabric seat upholstery, a leather-covered steering wheel, power windows, power-adjustable ORVMs and a digital key with Bluetooth technology. The car also comes with two 10.25-inch screens: one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as i-Smart technology that offers 55+ connected car features. Some of these features include remote lock/unlock, geo-fencing, vehicle status check, voice commands and more.


    The car also offers various safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, TPMS, a reverse parking camera and ISOFIX child seat anchors.


    Battery and Performance

    The MG Comet EV is powered by a 17.3 kWh battery pack that is paired with a motor that produces 41 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The car has a claimed range of 230 km on a single full charge. The battery pack can be charged via a 3.3 kW unit that takes seven hours for 0-100 per cent charge, while 10-80 per cent charge takes five hours. The car also supports fast charging via a 50 kW DC charger that can charge the battery from 0-80 per cent in just 40 minutes.


    The car has a top speed of 120 km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds. The car has three driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport, that alter the performance and efficiency of the car according to the driver’s preference. The car also has regenerative braking that helps to recover some of the energy lost during braking and extend the range of the car.


    Verdict

    The MG Comet EV is a smart and affordable electric car that offers a lot of features and convenience for urban customers. The car has a futuristic design, a spacious cabin, a decent range and performance, and various connected and safety features. The car also comes with an eight-year/1.5 lakh km warranty on the battery pack and motor, as well as free roadside assistance for five years. The car is ideal for those who are looking for an eco-friendly and economical alternative to conventional petrol or diesel cars.
