India’s richest person launches India’s ‘cheapest’ phone for trial on 10 lakh people: What is Jio Bharat platform
Mukesh Ambani, the richest Indian and the chairman of Reliance Industries, has launched a new internet-enabled phone that costs only Rs 999. The phone, called Jio Bharat V2, is aimed at liberating the 25 crore feature phone users who are still stuck in the 2G era. The phone runs on the Jio Bharat platform, which can be adopted by other phone brands to build affordable smartphones with access to various digital services.
What is Jio Bharat platform?
Jio Bharat platform is a software solution that enables low-cost internet-enabled phones to run various applications and services. The platform is based on Android Go, a lightweight version of Android designed for entry-level devices. The platform also supports UPI, JioCinema, JioSaavn, JioTV and other popular apps.
The platform is open for other phone manufacturers to partner with Reliance Jio and launch their own Jio Bharat phones. As of now, Karbonn is the first partner to launch a Jio Bharat phone, which is the Jio Bharat V2.
How to get Jio Bharat V2?
Jio Bharat V2 is currently part of a beta trial. The first phase of the trial is limited to 10 lakh users who can purchase the phone from July 7th onwards. The phone will be available on Jio.com and select offline stores.
The phone comes with a 4-inch display, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio and a 2000mAh battery. It also has a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.
The phone also comes with attractive data plans from Reliance Jio. Users can get unlimited voice calls and 2GB data per month for Rs 75 or unlimited voice calls and 24GB data per year for Rs 749.
