How Truecaller’s new AI feature will talk to spam callers for you

If you are tired of receiving unwanted calls from telemarketers, scammers, or fraudsters, you might want to try out Truecaller’s new AI-powered feature that will screen and filter out such calls for you. Truecaller, the popular caller ID and spam-blocking app, has launched its AI-based call screening feature in India, which allows users to let an AI assistant answer and transcribe incoming calls for them.

    What is Truecaller Assistant?

Truecaller Assistant is a customizable, interactive, digital receptionist that automatically answers users’ calls and helps them avoid unwanted callers. The feature leverages machine learning, speech-to-text, and natural language processing technologies to create a call-screening solution that can combat fraud and scam calls.

Truecaller Assistant uses its smart algorithm to answer and converse with the caller using natural language and show you the transcription on your screen. You can also guide the assistant with quick taps on predefined responses. When you are busy, you can set up your own personalised greetings for the assistant to use. You can choose from different voices and languages for the assistant, including over 100 options like Hindi and other regional languages.

    How does it work?

Truecaller Assistant simplifies call screening by answering and transcribing the incoming call for you. So whenever you receive a call you can either decline it or it will be forwarded to your digital Assistant. The Assistant will then answer the call on your behalf and will use voice-to-text technology to transcribe the caller’s message.

After the caller responds to your Assistant’s greeting, you will be able to see the caller’s identity and the reason for the call on your screen. Based on this information, you can decide whether to pick up the call, request additional information, or simply mark it as spam.

The feature is aimed at helping users avoid spam calls and save time by knowing the caller’s intent and purpose before picking up the phone. Truecaller also says that the feature will enhance the user’s security and privacy.

    How to get it?

The call screening feature is currently available only for Android users in India, and can be used for free for 14 days. After that, users will have to subscribe to the Truecaller Premium Assistant plan, which costs Rs 99 for the first month and Rs 149 per month thereafter. There is no word on when the feature will be rolled out to iOS users.

You can access AI call screening right from the bottom navigation bar — there’s a new button marked ‘Assistant’ from where it can be enabled.

    Why should you use it?

Truecaller Assistant is a useful feature for anyone who wants to avoid unwanted calls and protect themselves from potential scams or frauds. The feature can help you:

    • Save time by screening calls before answering them
    • Avoid spam calls and unwanted interruptions
    • Protect your privacy and security by not revealing your identity or personal information
    • Communicate with callers in different languages
    • Customize your greetings and responses

If you are looking for a smart and efficient way to handle your incoming calls, you might want to give Truecaller Assistant a try. It can make your life easier and safer by talking to spam callers for you.
