Delayed Delivery: How a Delhi Techie Received His AliExpress Order After 4 Years

Online shopping is convenient and fun, but sometimes it can also be frustrating and disappointing. Imagine ordering a product from an online platform and waiting for it to arrive, only to find out that it has been delayed for months, or even years. That’s what happened to a Delhi techie who ordered a product from AliExpress, the global e-commerce platform of Chinese online shopping giant Alibaba, in 2019 and received it in 2023.

According to a report by News18, the techie had ordered a wireless charger for his smartphone from AliExpress in September 2019. He paid Rs. 400 for the product and expected it to arrive within 20 to 45 days, which is the standard delivery time for AliExpress orders. However, he was in for a rude shock when he checked the tracking status of his order and found out that it had been stuck at the customs office in Kolkata since October 2019.

He tried to contact the seller and AliExpress customer service, but he did not get any satisfactory response or solution. He also tried to file a dispute on the AliExpress website, but he was unable to do so as the buyer protection period had expired. He had no choice but to wait and hope that his order would eventually reach him someday.

Meanwhile, the wireless charger technology had advanced and become cheaper and more widely available in the market. The techie had already bought another wireless charger from a local store and forgotten about his AliExpress order. He was surprised when he received a call from the post office in June 2023, informing him that his parcel had finally arrived after four years of delay.

He went to collect his parcel and found out that it was indeed the wireless charger that he had ordered from AliExpress in 2019. He opened the package and saw that the product was intact and functional, but it was outdated and useless for him. He wondered what had caused such a long delay in the delivery of his order and why he had not received any notification or explanation from AliExpress or the customs office.

He decided to share his story on social media and warn other online shoppers about the possible risks and challenges of ordering products from international platforms like AliExpress. He also advised them to check the seller ratings, reviews, and delivery guarantees before placing an order and to file a dispute within the buyer protection period if their order does not arrive within the promised time.

His story went viral and attracted a lot of comments and reactions from other online shoppers who had similar or worse experiences with delayed deliveries from AliExpress. Some of them shared their tips and tricks on how to avoid or deal with such situations, while others expressed their frustration and anger at AliExpress and the customs authorities for their poor service and communication.

AliExpress is one of the most popular online shopping platforms in India, offering a wide range of products at affordable prices. However, it also faces a lot of challenges and complaints from Indian customers regarding delayed deliveries, customs issues, quality issues, refund issues, and customer service issues. Many customers have reported that their orders have been delayed for months or even years due to various reasons such as logistic problems, natural disasters, pandemics, strikes, policy changes, or human errors.

AliExpress has claimed that it has taken measures to improve its delivery service and customer satisfaction in India, such as partnering with local courier companies, offering faster shipping options, providing tracking information, extending buyer protection period, and resolving disputes promptly. However, it seems that there is still a lot of room for improvement and innovation in this area.

Online shopping can be a great way to save time and money, but it can also be a risky and stressful affair if you are not careful and informed. Before you place an order on any online platform, make sure you do your research, read the terms and conditions, check the delivery time and guarantees, track your order status regularly, contact the seller or customer service if you have any issues or queries, file a dispute if your order does not arrive or is not as described, and share your feedback and reviews with other customers. Happy shopping!
