How Lyft Won Over The Uber Family With A $1K Gift Card

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a last name that matches a popular brand or service? Well, for one family in the US, it’s not as fun as you might think. Meet the Uber family, who share their surname with the ride-sharing giant. You’d think they would have an easy time signing up for an account with the app that bears their name, right? Wrong!

According to a post on the new social media platform Threads, the Uber family was unable to create an account with Uber because the app kept telling them that their last name was invalid. Apparently, the app never anticipated that someone would actually have the same name as them, or maybe it was a security measure to prevent fraud. Either way, it was a frustrating experience for the family, who just wanted to get a ride.

But that’s not all. The post also revealed that the Uber family was mysteriously removed from the app last year for violating the terms and conditions, without any explanation. How rude!

Luckily, there’s another ride-sharing app that was more than happy to welcome the Uber family with open arms. Lyft, Uber’s main competitor, saw this as an opportunity to make a splash and show some kindness. They sent the family a $1,000 gift card for Lyft rides, along with a cheeky message: “We can’t have you rideless!”

The gesture was well received by the family, who posted a photo of the card on Threads and declared their loyalty to Lyft. “Sorry, Uber, this Uber Fam chooses Lyft,” they wrote.

The story went viral on social media, and many people praised Lyft for their clever marketing move and their generosity. Bri Reynold, Lyft’s social media manager, said on her LinkedIn account that they saw this as a golden opportunity to make the Uber family’s life a little easier.

“We’re always looking for ways to surprise and delight our community, and when we saw this story on Threads, we knew we had to act fast,” she said. “We’re thrilled that the Uber family is now part of the Lyft family, and we hope they enjoy their rides!”
